Do you like camping? The weather this spring is perfect, so put your tent up in your garden and create a bit of a holiday feeling!
Probably everyone who loves to travel simple, likes camping. Even though we can't travel very far because of the corona situation, we can still put up a tent in our backyard and have a little camping holiday. I tried it out myself to check out the advantages and disadvantages over five nights.
Prepare
As camping is very rustic and I want to show you travel possibilities on a low budget, I decided to borrow everything I don't have but need, from my family and friends. I got the tent and cooking equipment from my parents and the pump from the roommate of my boyfriend.
Camping
I didn't prepare much for the first night and I woke up several times because I got quite cold. But all together it was not too bad and it was very nice to be woken by the singing birds.
I cooked on the old gas cooker of my parents and drank a beer in the evening sun while I was preparing my dinner. It was a lot of fun doing this outside and to be creative with my menu ideas as I could only use one pan.
I learned that you can make pasta like that, by cooking them in the sauce instead of water, that's so cool!
For the second night I wanted to get a bit more cosy and as I had everything I needed very close, I hung up some fairy lights, made myself a thermos flask full of warm tea, took some warming pads with me and watched some series on my laptop before I went to sleep.
The following nights were even warmer and I slept very well. Probably also because I had gotten a bit more used to it.
During daytime I didn't feel like I was on holiday that much, but that was due to the work I had to do for my project. So for you, it would probably be different.
But in the evening, when I was cooking or sitting in front of the tent with my boyfriend, having a chat and a glass of wine it really felt like being away from home. I also got this feeling inside the tent as I didn't see where I am.
Conclusion
Camping in your own backyard is a very good alternative during corona times. So if you need a change or a little adventure it's definitely worth trying!
Even if your surroundings are a bit more familiar than usual when you are camping, you can generate some holiday feelings. And you can take advantage of being at home for example by pimping up your tent, using your fridge (and having more space for cold food) and taking a shower in a real bathroom. So make the best out of it!
