Couchsurfing or staying at an airbnb isn't possible during corona. WRONG - you can do it at your own home.
Originally I wanted to try out couchsurfing during my bachelor project because it is a very sustainable and adventurous way to spend the night while traveling. You get to know local people who can show you around and tell you about some nice hidden spots. But because of the corona virus the people who had agreed to have me over understandably asked me to postpone my visit until further notice.
That's when I decided to couchsurf at my own home. I thought it might be an interesting experience and may give me a feeling how couchsurfing can be. I prepared the couch nicely in the morning as if I were the host. Then I packed my pyjamas, a book and my toilet bag. In the evening I moved tho our living room and got comfortable. Surprisingly, I felt quite like a stranger. I was much more aware of my flat mates walking down the hallway and going to the kitchen or the bathroom and really felt like I am at another house. But because I had arranged the room properly I felt welcome. I helped myself to a tea and read a bit before I went to sleep.
To be honest, I didn't sleep so well, as the couch was very hard and I forgot to shut the blinds. But I normally don't have a very good sleep the first night at a foreign place, so that was quite authentic too. In the morning I got ready only using the stuff from my toilet bag. That really underlined the feeling of being on the way.
Afterwards I put everything away and felt like the host again. Altogether I got a rough idea how couchsurfing could be like and it made me curious to try it out at another person's place. It also aroused my curiosity to offer my couch as a host.
So if you are bored at home and want some change at I would recommend to try it out, it's fun.
