My boyfriend and the boyfriend of my flatmate have their birthdays on the same day. As we were very limited in where to go to celebrate we got really creative and organized a trip around the world at home.
It was really fun, so maybe you want to do such a trip too.
Just think of the destinations you like. On our journey we started in Switzerland and then went to Bayern (Germany), Ireland, Mexico, the Orient, back in time into the medieval age, then to Italy and finally to Hawaii.
After deciding where we wanted to go we started to choose which room of the house is best for each place. Then we began to collect some decoration material to transform the rooms into the places they where meant to be. We thought of a typical food and drink for each theme and searched for suitable music on spotify to create playlists.
So after preparing everything it could begin. On our first stop we had a Raclette and some Swiss beer in the garden. Then we ent up to my brothers room a little Oktoberfest in Bayern with wheat beer and Pretzels. After that we sat in our Irish pub in the kitchen with a stout and some chips listening to old shanties.
This was followed by a trip to my Mexican room accompanied with Nachos, Guacuamole and Caipirinhas and then we moved to the Orient in my flatmates room where we had some Turkish apple tea and Falafel with Humus.
After that we travelled back to the medieval age where we enjoyed some mead and self-made whole wheat flatbreads with sour-cream, onions and tomatoes.
Our next stop was little Italy in my dressing room, where we had some mini Pizzas and red wine. Then we headed for our last destination Hawaii, which obviously had to be in the bathroom. We had a beach mat laid out on the floor, flower chains on the hooks and the bathtub was half filled with water. We listened to some Hawaiian music while finishing up with a fresh fruit platter and Lava Flows prepared by my brother.
It was a really nice evening and it worked really well to create a feeling of being on holiday. So if you miss traveling this is definitely something for you!
